OMG, I know.  I saw the video this morning on MSNBC regarding the Chile earthquake moving it 3 inches off it's axis.  Guys....what the hell is happening to our earth?!  All of these natural disasters, just stacking up, one on top of the other.  Something feels way "off" in the stratosphere/universe.  I dunno.

Moving the Earth 3 inches off axis, shortening days by milliseconds, and adding 6 feet of elevation to an island!!!  That really puts into perspective how powerful that quake was.

Large quakes have been hitting all over , cant help but think we might be next.  Definitely want to be prepared!
I've been trying to remind everyone to secure book cases and large furniture to the walls,  recheck  emergency bags and so on.

I too find it a little concerning that the world has had three major earthquakes in less then six months.
I figure that something like this could effect weather patterns and natural clocks (sunrise/sunset times off, ocean tides and the starting and ending of seasons).

I'm not sure where I read it, but I remember reading a book in a geology course I took on natural disasters. I remember reading about a theory that earthquakes in one part of the world can trigger earthquakes in another. Since quakes are essentially tectonic plates either moving, or being moved, then it stands to reason that movement of a plate in an area, like Haiti, could possibly effect the way other plates sit, even one near Chile. I'm not saying that's what happened in this case, but, honestly, after that course in natural disasters, I'm surprised we don't have more frequent superquakes then we currently do.

We do Jason. Thankfully they are small ones. And that is a good thing. It is when you stop having movement that it is a bad thing. Around the Pacific Ring of Fire, I have noticed a turn based cycle of where and who gets good shakers. For example,
We have one here in California---then one in the Pacific Northwest----then Alaska------then Japan-----then the south west pacific-----then South America---then Central America----and then back to us.
So I wonder then we will hear of a big earthquake in Central America/Mexico?

There's definitely a correlation between the earthquakes and the Pacific Ring of Fire.  These earthquakes are all along the Pacific Ring of Fire, traveling northbound, then westbound, and then southbound.  For this reason, I'm not worried about it.  I do wonder if global warming has anything to do with it.  I can see heat being held in and heating up the Earth's crust, causing it to expand and create earthquakes.   Dunno.

Good advice, Shell. Keep plenty of drinking water on hand, lots of canned food and a small gas cookstove. I've got to find my old coffee percolater, 'cause Armegeddon or not, I've gotta have my coffee. I know it sounded stupid at the time, but if you've got the room, keep a roll of Visqueen and a few rolls of duct tape on hand. That way if your windows are broken during an earthquake, you can keep the rain out. Oh yeah, might want to buy some child-proff latches for those kitchen cabinets too.

This whole 2012 thing makes me want to go on a rant!

The whole Mayan calender thing is based on the the Venus cycle. It is NOT the end of time. It's the end of a Venus cycle, that will then start all over again. Just like the Vedic solar year.
If the world ends in 2012 it's not because the Mayan calender says so.

Also, speaking from a capitalist standpoint: apocalypse is Big Business. It makes people spend money.
