Tim and I have discussed this topic for many years. Apparently the flavor of mexican food diminishes relative to the distance from the mexican border. Our observations over the years have demonstrated that mexican food in Cincinnati does not taste anything like mexican food in San Diego. The same can be said of mexican food in Maryland. So if our theory is correct...

I don't know about German mexican food. I think they need to stick to their own food.

Que lastima !  I'm glad Im in Los Angeles area then. Theres lots of great Mexican places around here too. Next time I go up north ill have to put this theory to the test. :P  Grrr..so late , but this topic has got me cravin' some enchiladas now!

On my trip to Hawaii (the Big Island), I saw one Mexican Food joint.  I'm sure there was more, but I wasn't really looking.  Oh, and I didn't stop and try it.  I don't really don't know what my point is, except, Aloha-Mex!   :P  I'm sure it's good... everything else there was awesome!

Dude, you don't go to Hawaii to eat mexian food.  Lomi Lomi Salmon, Mac Salad, Local Plate, Spam Musubi and more Spam Musubi.  Since I moved from Oahu, I have never found a place that serves honest to goodness Lomi Lomi Salmon.

That is not mexican food. It's Hexican or Hawican food.
Spam burrito is mexican food unless it is called "EL SPAMMO BURRITO OR CARNE DE SPAMMA BURRITO".

I can tell you for sure that mexican food is both expensive and generally mediocre in Seattle. Hell, even as for north as the famed Mission district in San Francisco is disappointing to me.

I agree with you on both points. But the absolute worst Mexican food I ever ate was in Cincinnati. The poor transplanted Californians that took me there had convinced themselves that it was really good. Needless to say, they had been away so long they must have forgotten what good Mexican food tasted like.

Some friends of mine moved from Texas to southern Maryland and they were surprised how difficult it was to find tortillas in the grocery stores. When I was staying with them I remember the long and elaborate story of how they finally found tortillas. "Do you know where we finally found the tortillas?" they said in their Texas drawl. "In the Foreign Food section. Tortillas ain't Foreign Food!" :)
