I am not a wordsmith like our dear friend Karl, and at this moment I wish I had the writing skills he possesses to tell you how I feel about this.  I will make a feeble attempt though, just the same.

The more time that goes by, the more our precious landscape is changing.  It just isn't the tangible that we are losing, but something much more important.  We are saying goodbye to a part of history and to those wonderful things and pastimes that we can lose ourselves in, if even for just a little while, that take us back to a time when life wasn't so complicated.  A time when life was a little more innocent and gentle.  Being able to take my daughter to Disneyland and enjoy the things there with her that I enjoyed with my parents as a child is so special.  It's these experiences that I hold dear and that can't be replaced. That to me is what special places like this represent.

I know change has to happen and yes, the only thing that remains constant is change.  But with every piece of wood, metal and other things that make up this wonderful place, falls to the ground, there will be many more tears from people that have spent many precious times there with those that they care about.  It is a mourning of losing memories and history.  Its places that remain unchanged that help us keep our bearings.

I remember when Irvine was only orange groves and you could drive from Irvine to Lake Forest on the 405 fwy and there were no buildings at all.  Just wide open space.  Now, you are lucky if you find ANY open space.  It's all been replaced with building after building.  Anyway, I'm going down the "boo hoo" road here, so I'll stop.  I just hope that even if Astroland isn't there any longer, people will keep the memories alive and well in their hearts.

Pollyanna signing off.... :'(
