December 13-14 Geminid Meteor Shower

Grab your blankets and get ready for what astronomers are predicting will be the best meteor shower of the year. The Geminids peak tonight.    The constellation of Gemini -- the point in the sky where the meteors seem to radiate -- is high enough in the sky to start watching for meteors around 9:30 pm, but the moon will interfere until it sets about midnight, so the best time to check out the show should be after midnight. Don't look for meteors in the constellation of Gemini -- instead just kind of soak up the entire view of the night sky. Happy hunting.

The Geminids put on a nice show last night. I spent a very relaxing hour or so admiring the night sky after the moon set before it got too cold. High clouds then began to roll in and obscured all but the brightest meteors. Although not spectacular, it was very beautiful. Saw quite a few bright ones sweep through the constellation of Orion.

You can still catch a few stray Geminids for the next week or so. They just won't be as frequent.
