Are they man made or are they extraterrestrial?
What are they for?
Why are they there?
How are they made?

Druid graffiti.

I tend to think the vast majority of these are privately organized collaborative art projects.  I'm almost confident that, if we knew where and how to look, we'd find the signature of the artist(s) at virtually every location.  The artist's pleasure in having participated in the crop circle creation is derived from watching the media and onlookers attach greater significance to it (and, isn't that the point of art, after all?) and knowing where he or she has left the all important signature.  Furthermore, when I say "the artist's" pleasure, I mean this somewhat literally, as there is a pathology involved here where people actually taken visceral pleasure from these circumstances.  It's a little discussed fact that Adolf Hitler used to orgasm during his speeches at the sound of his own voice.  (I'm not making this up.)  I think we can assume that the driving force for a lot of crop circle creators is the same one that makes some people risk being arrested for pubic indecency and lewd behavior while giving themselves sixty seconds to climax in the middle of a vacant city intersection before cars begin showing up at the stoplight.  (Again, I'm not making this up--warped as my mind is sometimes.)

The evidence to suggest that this is a cultural phenomenon and not E.T. is the way that the trend has evolved in the last thirty years.  Where are the simple crop circles anymore?  Nowhere to be seen.  Why?  Because no one's paying attention to them, and this provokes the crop circle maker to have attention paid to him or her, at all costs.  (This is beginning to sound like the profile of a serial killer.)

Furthermore, the challenge is typically issued, not merely to the public to figure out who's making these, but to other crop circle artists to outdo them in complexity, time, location, materials, and so on.  Frankly, almost point for point, there is NO difference between urban tagger graffiti artist and crop circle makers.  One is a simply bucolic subcultural phenomenon, and the other, a metropolitan one.

I'm somewhat convinced that there are UFOs.  I've had a couple of encounters in my life to support this.  And, if alien visitors are real, and if they're flying in craft that is round, and if the roundness of their vehicles has something to do with the circular nature of the crop phenomenon, then . . . yes, maybe some crop circles are created by alien visitors.  That's a lot of "if's", though.  Too many for my comfort.  My money is on a pathologically egomaniacal landscape artist with way too much free time and a whimsical penchant for boll weevils up his crack.

Well said! The crop circles are beautiful pieces of work. Very creative. I can't imagine the underside of a space ship with such earthly designs on it. But who knows...lol. Anyway, they are attention getters. Funny, I just started reading this post and 'Signs' came on the television...lol.

I agree. Crop circles are beatiful works of art, and nothing more. There have been several documentaries that followed crop circle artists around, and I must admit they are very impressive. It's amazing what people can do with a little time and imagination.

I am an avid amatuer astonomer and science geek. Although I do believe that sentient life exists in other star systems, I don't believe they would travel many light years from their home just to impress us with pretty geometric patterns in a wheat field. Think about it... if another race of people could travel at the speed of light, and they lived around one of the "closest" stars to us, such as Sirius (which because of it's stellar characteristics wouldn't be a good candidate for a habitable world like Earth), it would take them over 8 YEARS just to reach us. Seems that such a long trip would require more accountability to those back home who came up with the funding for the trip.

Here is a web-site that tells about some of the people who makes the crop circles. And they were to appear on TV to tell how they do it. There are even books on how to make the circles...lol
Have a great weekend..

Thanks Shieldmaiden,

That is a very cool website. I especially liked the giant footprint crop circles in Milan for the Nike ad. Very clever.

Have a good weekend.

There are some pretty creative people out there. It looks so complicated. I can't image wasting so much time doing something like that. Not to mention ruining some poor farmers crop. But it takes all kinds. And as you said, why would aliens want to waste their time doing pictures in a field. I think they would have a better way to communicate. Even if they did come through some 'portal' that takes only minutes to arrive here to earth, I don't think they would use their enginuity making pictures in the fields. But who knows? Maybe they have lots of time to waste too...NOT!!!
lol
Thanks, and you have a good weekend too. Are you going hunting tonight?

PPI Brian

Yes, I am.

Going to do some EVP work tonight, and will shoot some IR video and some long exposure stills if the EMF picks up anything unusual.

I picked up an eerie groan two weeks ago, and I'm trying to find a reasonable explanation for it. Have a lot of audio to listen to.

Wish me luck!

Will, I do wish you luck. But I am sure you will have fun also...lol...hope it wasn't your stomach growling that made the eerie groan...lol...just teasing.

Excelent answer!

It's obvious that most, if not all crop circles are of human origin. I agree with Brian that any sponsor of an interstellar joy ride would want some kinda return other than the amazed look on the faces of those humans. Most are beautiful, but I doubt the more complicated ones could be done without the farmer's permission though. You mess with a farmer's crop, a farmer could get a mite riled.

My favorite photo of a crop circle: a giant hand flipping the bird.

A friend e-mailed me that picture once upon a time, and I have been looking for it for days to no avail.

I'm still looking for that picture. I burned a lot of pics to CD just to get them off my hard drive, so I'm hoping it's there. As for the stomach growling, that's a distinct possibility. I will listen to it again, or if you would like, I will cut the clip out and post it if it's not too big of a file.

Good luck in Reno, Shield. Remember... the best way to get the luck of the Irish is to take an Irish person with you!

I will transfer the clip from my laptop this weekend, and try to post it so you can hear it. I have been trying to replicate this sound, but haven't been able to do so yet. I will keep trying until I run out of possible sources.

Have a safe trip.

Hey Shield,

I found the photo. I attached it to this response. I hope it does not violate any of the standards of content on the PPI website. If it does, I am truly sorry. It it only meant to make people laugh, by poking fun at their belief in aliens creating crop circles. I hope no one is offended.

I'm not offended at all. I just don't want someone stumbling accross it who could be offended. But I think I'll keep it because I do like it so much.

Thanks, David.

Hello...Thanks Brian for posting that for me..it really made my night! I just got home from Reno a few hours ago, and believe me I needed that laugh. It is great stuff, and thanks to David for leaving it there until I at least got to see it.
I just wanted to tell you that I am Irish...lol...but what is funnier I did take an Irishman with me. A friend of mine from Limerick, Ireland who flew in to visit last Tuesday. But with all that Irish I still lost my arse! lol....oh well, at least I got back in one piece and got some good pictures in Virginia City. If I knew how to post them I would, but don't know that trick yet. Got some good inside shots of the Catholic Church there, and the Manison House and inside of the Bucket of blood Saloon and the Millionaires Club. Great fun there. The gambling stunk, but what is new? lol.....Hope you all had a great weekend.
Thanks again everyone. And I hope Hollly is feeling better too.

Hey Shield,

Yeah, I was kind of leery about posting it, because I really did not want to offend anyone. I just thought it was funny. They say a picture is worth a thousand words... this picture says so much more.

Glad you made it back in one piece. Sorry you didn't strike it rich in Reno. Did you get to do some hunting in Virginia City?

Good Evening Brian....I just took some pictures that I thought might look good, or show something. Didn't have any 'feelings' except in one place in the Church. And one standing outside of the 'Mansion'. Other than that I didn't do any hunting. Mostly gambled and the usual tourist stuff...lol. I think you would have liked the Church. I wanted to go to the basement where they have a small museum, but my travliing partner didn't want to take the time. The people there were going to specially open it for us, but he wasn't interested...next time I go I will for sure take the time. I have been to Virginia City several times, but there is always something new to see. The old cemetary would be great to check out at night. Next time I go, I will for sure make sure that my companions are hunters also...lol.
Anyway, no, your picture wasn't offensive. And if any one has noy seen the bird at this stage in life already, than I would say they are way too young to be on the internet...lol. It's just a cute picture, nothing more.  And very tactfully done. Great stuff. Thanks again.
Hope your night is going well. Hey, did you find out what that groaning was in your recording?
Take care.
Hugs,
Connie
