Poor Sylvia.  Looks like she is out in the street.  She'll have to find another talk show to suck dry.

Good ridd....I mean no comment.  I'm sure someone will pick her up again.

I don't remember hearing her saying anything to Montel during her "Predictions for 2008" segment... shouldn't she have seen this coming?  :)  Check it out by clicking this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgPIc22VRdg

oprah or tyra will pick her up

I'm more inclined to think Tyra.  Oprah would eat her for lunch.

I find it so horrible that people like Sylvia Brown have ruined the reputation for the real deal.

OPRAH is really not that great ok!   She after all had a doctor on her show that really did not have a liscense to practice plastic surgury.  I suck at spelling.  This guy killed kanya west mother.  So she isn't all that is she.  I am tired of her a women who self hating...  After she is still kinda thick....

DAAAANNNG!

I thought Kanye West's mom died from Plastic Surgery

bellalaghoste

that doctor was on oprah's show as a plastic surgen.   He also had a show about plastic surgury on discovery health channel too.   I guess people do not car who they give a show to now a days!!!!

ttjoon

Yes Dave, she did die during plastic surgery.   However, it was too much anesthesia compounded with a heart disorder that she did not document in her medical paperwork.  She wanted the surgery so badly and did not inform anyone of the condition for fear of not being able to go through with it.  Anesthesia and a heart condition can be a deadly combination if the anesthesiologist doesn't know about it. Ultimately, that is what killed her. The man who actually performed her surgery was found not to have a license to practice medicine. Kanye West's mother passing away was what finally brought this whole thing out.

I think we as human beings want to believe the best about people.  Sometimes though, it keeps us from doing our homework on certain individuals to make sure they really are who they say they are.  Given enough time, everyone shows their true colors.  If they are living a lie, eventually it will come to light. Unfortunately, there are times when people get hurt in the process.  This was one of those times.

One of my favorite authors/poets once said something so poignant and I?ve never forgotten it.  Her name is Maya Angelou.  She said, ?When someone shows you who they truly are, believe it?.  There were probably many times when the signs were there that he wasn?t an MD, but no one paid attention.  Kanye West?s mother unfortunately paid the ultimate price.

Oh God.  Miss Cleo.  Who could forget her? Queen of the late night infomercial.  She and Dione Warwick and her Psychic Friends Network.  They were so psychic that they couldn't see their own demise coming like a freight train with no brakes.

Guess she finally found the fame she'd been looking for all her life. Believe it or not, she's still in the psychic business.

200 years ago, our communication over computers would have been deemed magical and we all would have been burned at the stake.  200 years from now, explanations for what we call Paranormal will be in Science Textbooks.

In light of recent developments, I thought it might be appropriate to resurrect this thread. Although we were extremely critical of Sylvia Browne as a Paratainment Celebrity, I think many of us accept the possibility that some people do possess certain abilities that currently defy scientific explanation. Sylvia may or may not have had such abilities, but it has been my experience that psi ability, like haunting phenomena, is elusive by nature and although cyclic, has proved to be unpredictable and often unreliable. If you're trying to make a living by being a modern day Oracle, then you have to fake your way through the "off" days. Good Cold Readers are able to pull it off for a short period of time, but the odds are against them and eventually they are exposed. Sylvia was able to pull it off for a lot longer than anybody in recorded history. She wrote over 50 books and many of them hit the Best Seller list. She appeared on numerous TV shows, and landed a regular gig on the Montel Williams Show. She took Paratainment to a new "high" -- or low, depending on your point of view. Eventually her over exposure provided her critics with many major "misses", and she failed to follow up with James Randi after appearing on the Larry King Show. Although she was larger than life, she was just a human being. Sadly, she suffered some undisclosed debilitating ailment, and succumbed this week. I saw the following videos on YouTube and thought they were exceptionally cruel.

http://www.youtube.com/v/Hwst_6HRqrk

James Randi released the following video in May of 2013. The video references the infamous "miss" regarding Amanda Berry, who we learned this year had been kidnapped and held hostage by Ariel Castro in his suburban Ohio home for over a decade. Sylvia told Amanda's mother she would see her again in Heaven, and Amanda's mom died before the truth of Amanda's whereabouts was discovered. Was Sylvia really wrong in this regard? Possibly. James Randi was probably just responding to the news of Amanda's dramatic discovery, and had hopes that Sylvia's reign had come to an end. Or he may of had some "insider information" about the state of her health.

http://www.youtube.com/v/upB2-0jY00Q

Randi posted this on this blog when news of Sylvia's passing was made public:

Message from James Randi on Sylvia Browne's death
Written by James Randi

When Sylvia Browne died, Montel Williams offered this sappy eulogy:

"A beacon that shined [sic] for so many was extinguished today, but its brightness was relit and will now shine forever for many of us from above."

To explain to this apparently dense man where his judgment has reverted to the level of a 5-year-old, I'll point out that Browne was not at all funny "ho-ho" but frightening ? to anyone with any compassion. She fed eagerly on the insecurities, the grief, the need and desperation, of her victims. They turned to her for help, at great cost -- $850 for a 20-minute telephone chat as she squatted before the TV camera like a taloned Jabba the Hutt confronting Luke Skywalker -- played by Montel -- and graveled out anything-but-funny, unfounded, useless, and damaging pap that added to their confusion and pain -- but which made Montel and his sponsors ecstatic, because they could hear those cash register sounds as their products slid off store shelves.

And she let 10+ years go by yet never tried for the JREF million-dollar prize, as she'd agreed to do when we both appeared together on Larry King Live so many years ago?

I agree with JREF President D.J. Grothe that we do not celebrate her death, even as we criticize the way she lived. But I'll be quite frank with you, I cannot mourn at Browne's passing -- she really hurt far too many people, and always so unapologetically.

It's unfortunate that she only stopped hurting so many people by dying.
