So I was hanging out watching some football with an old friend last night, and mentioned some of the things I've been doing... and getting involved with PPI was one of the things I brought up.  After some rather interesting conversation, he brought up the 'Witching Hour' to me.  I have heard that term before, but was never really aware of it's meaning.  Finding out, that 3:00AM is to be considered the witching hour, and thats when spirits or ghosts re likely to become active.   So I am curious what anyone here has to say about that?  Could that be a potentially better time to be involved in an investigation?  Just curious.   ???

An idea, like a ghost, must be spoken to a little before it will explain itself!

Great topic, Gary.

There are many claims that paranormal activity is "naturally" ::| active during the 3 a.m. Happy Hour.  (Paranormal State's Ryan Buell fancies calling it the "Dead Time". ::|  I'm running out of eyerolls for this post. ::|)  I don't discount the fact that many of our cases report greater activity during nighttime hours.  However, we've had cases where the activity occured throughout the day as well, and some where the activity increased only during daylight hours.  Personally, I think the 3 a.m. theory has more to do with how the human brain functions at that hour than anything else.  It's no coincidence that the statistical probability of experiencing R.E.M. sleep during that time (for the majority, that is) is greater than any other.  Deprived of it's normal sleep cycles, the brain is going to do some weird stuff, simply out of habit if for no other reason.  And the imaginative synthesis emerges:  ghouls and witches, predators and the visitations of dead loved ones--all the things that we might be dreaming about (hypnogogically perhaps) if it weren't for the unpleasant fact that we're awake at bloody 3 a.m.!

Again, I'm not saying that there isn't the possibility of such activity being real.  I just think it's not beholden to the 3 a.m. hour--unless that's when the neighborhood teen goth club sneaks out of the house to meet for bad candlelit poetry over at the local graveyard.
If you want to end your misery, start enjoying it, because there's nothing the universe begrudges more than our enjoyment.

Hey Gary,
I don't know if this is true. What I can tell you is that I have heard of stories that between the times of 3:30am to 6:30am is the time where most people pass away. Come to think of it, I know two people who passed away between those times. Old folks homes have claims of seniors passing away between the those times. They are discovered during shift changes..
Sounds interesting...Go on.

It's funny because at my first investigation (post "gun cane" experience just hours prior), Leslie and I were in the admin area of Union Hall and we were talking about the best times to do evp work.  As soon as she says, "3:00am", you can hear two whispers.  The first is a female, "I..can't...hide", followed by a male, "Come in".  I don't know which flipped me out more; the gun cane or those two evps.
