The following link is a review of Dr. Julie Beischel's March 20, 2009 lecture at the Scottish Rite Center in San Diego. It features the more-than-a-century-old search for proof that consciousness survives death. Follow the link with a grain of salt... or two.  :)

I really enjoyed Rosengarten's review, actually.  I like the way he thinks (which is to say, he thinks most like we do about these things  ;)).

Thanks for posting this, Brian!  I'm sorry, now, I missed this lecture.
If you want to end your misery, start enjoying it, because there's nothing the universe begrudges more than our enjoyment.

You're welcome, Karl. I'm sorry I missed the presentation too.

I recently ran across the following article on the subject and thought it appropriate to include on this thread:

The never-ending search for information about the possible persistence of consciousness beyond death will be deftly addressed beginning May 13, 2009, at the Rhine Research Center in Durham, NC, when Dr. Julie Beischel's Spirit Under the Microscope: What Science Can Tell Us About the Afterlife will come under discussion. Dr. Beischel, who performs her research at the Windbridge Institute for Applied Research in Human Potential, will be on hand at the Rhine Center May 15 and 16 to discuss her work and conduct a workshop. Dr. Beischel champions the idea some mediums actually make contact with the dead and offers three sources for the information the mediums receive. Could there be a fourth possible source?

Despite all the research on the topic, though, Michael Prescott uses his blog today to ask Does Survival Really Matter?
