When the Apollo 12 crew returned a camera from a Lunar Surveyor probe, NASA reported finding evidence of common bacteria that had somehow survived for two and half years on the surface of the moon. Turns out the truth is more interesting than the urban legend that surrounds this bit of NASA mythology:
