I became interested in the idea of environmental monitoring of allegedly haunted locations back in the early 1980's. The curator of the Whaley House, June Reading, hypothesized that paranormal activity in and of itself was composed of energy, and that when paranormal activity manifests, it somehow draws measurable energy from the ambient environment, be it in the form of static electricity, humidity, temperature or background radiation. Unfortunately the technology of the day was not only unwieldy, it was outrageously expensive. |

As a police officer, I see belligerent people picking fights all the time. I don’t know if it’s what we are as a nation, or what we are as a species, but we seem to love to tick people off. However, paranormal investigators take it a step further. We have been known to, on occasion, tick off the dead. But there is a reason for it. It’s called provoking. There has been a lot of discussion over the years regarding the nature of Electronic Voice Phenomena or EVP. One prevailing idea is that EVP is composed of either ultrasonic or infrasonic sound waves, and that is the reason why investigators are unable to hear EVP at the time of capture. Although this is an elegant idea, it is unlikely because it defies the basic understandings of acoustic energy. |
