The Giant squid and the Colossal squid were wild yarns told by sailors? Such sea monsters were believed to be myth less than 20 years ago, dispite the ocasional giant squid that got washed ashore.

There is still so much to learn about our oceans.

No Brian I had not seen the links. Thank you so much for posting them!

I love the National Geopgraphic site. I now have a new website filled with cool things to read and look at where I can get lost for hours, and that beats out a lot of other things I could do to waste time. ;D

I love the idea that for at least a while those who have refered to themselves as experts surmised that there could not be life in any form at the bottom of the oceans, then we created the ability to go and look, and what do they find out? Whoa! look!! LIFE!!! glow in the dark squid too.

I also love that the kraaken was "just a sailor's story of sea monsters"as recently as 25 years ago.  If we knew for certain what we don't know, we would be half way to there to knowing it, but then there would still be the problem of understanding what we do know.

Yes, the sea is still a mystery even in the 21st century. It's been said that we have mapped more of the surface of the moon than we have the mapped the ocean floor. And the oceans cover 2/3 of our planet...
