They almost exclusively traced back to Jason Offutt's blog.

Found the following on The Black Vault (http://www.theblackvault.com/wiki/index.php/Black_Eyed_Kids):

Urban legends referring to Black Eyed Kids began to appear in 1998, starting with a newsgroup posting by journalist Brian Bethel reporting of a meeting with two unusually confident and eloquent children who attempted to talk him into giving them a ride in his car. Bethel said in his post that he nearly opened the door to admit the children, even though he found them vaguely unsettling, until he realized that their eyes were completely black, with no iris or pupil. He reports that, as soon as he realized this, the children became angry and insistent, and he drove away quickly. His posting implies that the children may have been using some form of low-level mind control to induce him to open the car, perhaps a form of neurolinguistic programming judging by what is reported of their speech patterns and diction.

Since this post, there have been other reports of similar experiences in other parts of the country. These accounts are similar to Bethel's in that they generally involve the children's request that the teller let them inside their car or house, frequently using an excuse such as "I need to get home to my mother," or something that implies the child is in need.

Urban legends involving the Black Eyed Children generally do not explain the cause of the children's eye color or the origins of the children themselves. Some imply they could be ghosts or demons, specifically vampires: the tales frequently emphasize that the children must be admitted or invited into the house or car in question, and in this way are reminiscent of some vampire legends.

This is really freaky. I did some research on this. Each of the experiences described by individuals that claim to have experienced "BEKs" are chilling to say the least.

I would really be interested to hear an account from a credible source that has witnessed a BEK. So far, it's all just urban legends spread on the internet that have yet to be connected with real people (at least conclusively).

Here is a YouTube link for what may possibly be the first BEK.

LOL! I love it! Thank you, Jason. I needed a laugh!

Speaking of needing a good laugh, you gotta listen to this podcast featuring "Cheeto" talking about the BEK "phenomena". It's not the topic that's amusing, it's their accent. I'm sorry, it's just hard to take them seriously.  :)

The urban legend of Black Eyed Kids phenomena quite honestly creeps even myself out. I immediately find myself thinking about what I would do if approaced by such children.

Black eyed children :

Description: Children seem very normal looking except for pitch black eyes, no whites of the eyes.

Numbers:  Usually one or two children. If one child usually Female. If two children, one male and one female child.

Characteristics: Exhibit behaviors not characteristic of children of age group. Trance-like state. They can be described as lethargic, catatonic, forceful and even demanding and insistent. They are seeking, wanting, or pleading for help.

Psychic abilities?: Like a rush of fear and anxiety that hits them, most cases that I?ve read about always include the same type of feelings of danger for the witness of BEK.

Typical scenario: A person traveling late at night (early morning) stops for gas at a self service gas station. While pumping gas, a child appears to the person out of the blue. The child seems out of place and a fear begins to build inside the person. "Mister, may I please have a dollar or ride, or anything?" .....
