Does anyone believe that animals such as cats have the unique ability to sense when things are around that we can't see? I know of their abilities to sense activities such as storms, earthquakes, death, and other events. Anyone have any thoughts?

There are many documented accounts of animals reacting to paranormal activity. I am not sure if cats or dogs are more "sensitive"... they could be equally aware of the paranormal activity and simply respond differently because of their nature. Either way, it's a very interesting topic and I look forward to the many discussions and points of view on this new thread.

I sent these articles to everyone I knew when they first came about. I just thought it was so interesting. My cats have a sense of when I'm feeling ill or sad or what have you, so this actually hit home for me.
I have a little intersting cat story. My family is very feline frendly. All of my aunts and uncles have at least one cat, usually 2 or more. I had an Aunt pass away recently, and during her burial mass (she was Catholic) a cat ran in front of the altar. Our whole family thought it was a sign. Cats aren't known to wander through churches like that as far as I know. It wasn't the church's cat, I asked.
I don't own a bat thank goodness, but my cat does chomp down hard on my nose if I ignore her. Once I thought she had given me a piercing. I almost went shopping for a nose ring (it hurt!).

Yes, I was bummed when I heard that Oscar was found dead. I suppose his reputation made him quite the unwelcomed bedfellow. ;D
His demise was probably intentional (I'm giving the old folx the benefit of the doubt here) but I think people were reading more into his "abilities" than was warrented... Oscar could sense these people were passing; he was not causing them to pass. As you said, cats have an uncanny sense of when something is bothering us, and they seem to know that we find comfort in their presence. I think Oscar was only trying to comfort them as they passed.

That's why I thought it was so interesting. I highly doubt a small little feline could be the actual cause of their passings either. He just seemed to know when it was near and would come to be bedside with them during that time. I just think it shows that their senses are much keener than ours, either that or they just pay more attention to their natural surroundings.

everyone knows their senses are far more acute than a human's. it seems possible that they might be able to hear sounds that are too low for a human's ears to hear, and to that effect, perhaps see them too (slight flickering in the shadows, motion that is quick or slight, or in an ultra range. cats are quite sensitive to emotion also. since spirit activity seems attached to highly emotional events, it would fit with them being able to recognize an entity if one is present.
