Dust Devils, that is... ;D Saw this animation on the Mars Rover website and thought it was absolutely paranormal. Not everyday you get to see a Dust Devil on another world.

Now THAT'S awesome!
To freak'n cool!
devils in me and the devils in you and on mars
Nothing makes one feel smaller than looking up at the sky. Especially if its the sky of an alien world. Check out the latest animation from Opportunity: Watching Martian Clouds Go By http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/spotlight/20080324_Opportunity.html
If that doesn't do anything for ya, check out this link from the New Horizon mission: Jupiter's Little Red Spot (Yes, Virginia; there's another red spot forming on Jupiter). http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/gallery/sciencePhotos/image.php?page=&gallery_id=2&image_id=17
Great clips, Brian. Love the dust devil.
very cool clips...
WOW!!!!!! Those clips are way too cool. For some reason, I loved the one of the Martian clouds. It just makes Mars a more real place for me.
thats crazy!!! i love it
Here's a video you all may like... Seven Minutes of Terror. It's about the Phoenix Lander that's scheduled to land on Mars on May 25th. Very cool. :)

Absolutely amazing!
wow that is soo cool ;D
That was almost like a movie trailer.
haha ya
Yes, I will be glued to the computer during the landing... JPL always has a live video feed from Mission Control during their Mars missions.
The Phoenix has landed! ;D
The lander is intact and operating well. Here's a link to their website: http://phoenix.lpl.arizona.edu/05_25_landed_pr.php

Right on! Thanks, Brian!
I was a little nervous about the parachute malfunction, but it looks like it got a good landing spot anyway.

Yes...the parachute is definitely something you don't want malfunctioning. That could really ruin your day....
wow, visual confirmation there's atmosphere there. really cool stuff! When's the 2nd one land?

Not sure. There's a new version on the Mars Rovers that's scheduled to land in 2010. I am still anxiously waiting for the one piece of equipment that Carl Sagan asked JPL to install on Martian probes before he passed away; a microphone, so we can hear the sound of the wind on Mars. They installed it on the Mars polar lander that crashed a few years ago, but they haven't put one on another lander since.
Neat stuff, I wasn't sure if that was the one that is suppose to follow the Phoenix landing. I was at ASU when they were working on the first rover, at least certain portions of it and never had any idea of the magnitude of its discoveries until after it had landed and was the first of its kind. Really neat stuff, my dad is a space nut, worked for a lot of space and aerospace engineering corporations so I was spoon fed this stuff growing up and still love it.
Here's the latest from the tough little rovers on Mars:

These Postcards from Mars videos are breath taking!
Here's what Opportunity's been up too:

And here's what Spirit's been doing:

That IS breath taking. Wow.
Here's the latest from JPL on the health of these awesome rovers:

This is an amazing website. You can spend HOURS upon HOURS and just get lost in all of the multimedia and images. So much incredible information. I am going to talk to my daughter's school and see if they have ever thought to incorporate this website to help teach the kids about space.
Here's a couple of Nova specials I found on the twin rovers:
http://www.hulu.com/watch/23355/nova-mars-dead-or-alive (http://www.hulu.com/watch/23355/nova-mars-dead-or-alive)
http://www.hulu.com/watch/23352/nova-welcome-to-mars (http://www.hulu.com/watch/23352/nova-welcome-to-mars)
The first one is about the design and building of the rovers, all the engineering challenges they faced, and the human drama of making it all work and landing safely on Mars. I'm about to watch the second one right now, which picks up where the first one left off, and deals with the rovers as they pursue their mission on the planet's surface.
I love Nova :)
About 15 minutes into the second video, they show Opportunity's landing sequence. When they get a radio signal that the rover has successfully touched down, everyone in mission control is clapping. As the camera pans around, you can see Arnold Schwarzenegger in a suit applauding. It was a touching moment, but all I could think about was Arnold in a video screen yelling, "Get ya ass to Ma's!" ;D
I dig the background music in the video as much as the visuals, cool stuff.
Great videos, Brigham. Thanks for sharing those with us! :)
