Title: The Phoe
Post by: Tim on March 28, 2007, 12:06:28 AM
Does anyone know of the legend of the Phoe? Pronounced like Foo. It rhymes with shoe.
It was told to me by my cousin who lived in Wisconsin.
He said it was a Bigfoot creature that lived in Wisconsin.
He spoke of a story about Three Hunters who encountered a Phoe.
Only one of the hunters survived.

I haven't had the pleasure of hearing about it. My father is from Milwaukee, and so is PPI Karl. Did these hunters happen to have any photos?

If only one of three survived, it sounds like a murder mystery to me, not a paranormal crypto story...but I don't know much about Cryptozoology, never have been a big fan of Bigfoot or E.T.s or anything like that. Somewhat into E.T.s but not crazy about them.

I would like to know more though :)

Unfortunely,
I had heard about this story from my cousin when I was just a boy.
You guys from Milwaukee... Cool! I have a Uncle and some cousins who still live there.
I know of no photos that exists of the Phoe.

I too am from Wisconsin, and I have never heard of these roumers about a Phoe. I do not doubt it though, there have been all sorts of Bigfoot sightings all along the Canadian border.

:P That makes 'em real in my bed . . . errr, book; real in my book.

Brian, you almost had me with the "along the Canadian border" comment.  LOL.  Good one!  (Took me a minute, though.)

I've heard of stories of the Phoe in passing, but mostly from those Travel Channel shows that try to make you consider switching your vacation destination from one of the islands in the Bahamas to some Heartland hell-hole with a whitewashed fence, a tourism industry based solely on tours of the local sausage factory, and a picturesque view of the town's water tower looming outside your bed-and-breakfast in homage to H.G. Wells.

I'm not a hunter, and never went on a hunting expedition in Wisconsin, but I've heard there are enough bear to worry the best of hunting parties.  Also, the Langlade forest areas of northern Wisconsin are under the control of Native American tribes, the major portion of which have VERY bad relations with outsiders over fishing and hunting rights.  Campers and hunters used to go missing fairly often in this area (my friends and I were almost casualties, ourselves, in 1978) and, while I'm by no means saying that the Phoe should be chalked up to "murderous injuns," I do think, in the state that gave us Ed Gean and Jeffery Dalmer, enough intrigue exists in Wisconsin to suggest another cause--one just as dark yet altogether human.

You know,
I do remember something else to the story.
There was something about the three hunters encountering one lone native American out there in the woods. The indian did warn them about hunting in the land of the Phoe. He told them not to distrub where the Phoe marked his territory.
I guess two of the three hunters did not heed the warning.
I'll ask my cousins if they can elaborate on the story.

Hey Tim,

I don't think I've heard anything about the Phoe, but I have heard about something just as interesting. It's a legend that has been circulating out here in the barbaric wastelands of East County for quite some time. A legend that may perhaps have some basis in truth. Legend has it, these shadowy seldom seen denizens of the East County only come out at night. They hunt in packs, and can often be heard howling on the outskirts of preserved open space. They are said to be half-breeds... wildlings. They are said to be half coyote, and half pit bull. We know them as... (cue the evil music...) The Peyotes.

Just wanted to share that with you.  ;D

Peyote is a type of mushroom and drug. It causes hallucinations. Some Native American Indians use it for part of their religion.

or here is the Mexican Version of Peyote...

Peyote Deiasu - Peyote is a Mexican shaman who is first introduced around Chapter 115 of the manga. He uses his spirits, Carlos and Joan, to possess BoZ. He integrates his Mariachi spirits with Mexican skeleton puppets (that in Mexico symbolized death). He is defeated by an attack from Ren in the end. Later on reappears in another battle against Ren and manages to kill Ren. His last appearance was very later on when he switches sides and attacks Hao's henchmen.

Spirits: Carlos, Joan (friends of Peyotes, known for starting brawls and were gunned down by angry saloon clients) also Antonio, Pancho, Miguel & Sapata (all Mariachi players that died in stupid brawls)

The Phoe, it is said according to the story, will only kill you if you tamper with his territorial markers.

Peyotes will not kill you
but will make a meal of your cat if you happen to let the cat out at night.
And they don't release paranormal wellness odor. ;D

Ok Guys,
I talked to my cousin and here is the rest of the story.
He said that the three hunters did not take heed to what the Indian said.
The first night though, they heard sounds in the woods. One hunter said he
Would stand watch as the two other hunters got some sleep.
The one hunter who was on watch though, fell asleep as he was leaned back against a tree. The next morning all three hunters awoke to the sounds they heard in the woods but only closer to the campsite. They also noticed that each one of them had a big pile of crap on them.
Two of the hunters panicked. They screamed, jumped up, scraped the crap of them and ran. They only got to the far end of their campsite when the Phoe caught of them and killed both of them.
The last hunter watching in horror and paralyzed with fright suddenly remembered what the Indian had said. He slowly reached for his hunting cap and carefully put on his head not the disturb the pile of crap on his head.
He then got up and walked slowly of the campsite.
He was only one of the three to make out of the woods alive. He was the only one to remember the wise words of the Indian.

?IF THE PHOE SHITS, WHERE IT!? ;)

Happy April Phoe's Day, you now have been PHOED! ;D

Now that you have been Phoed,
back to the business at hand.
There was a location that I thought you guys might
want to check out and it is right here in the
East County of San Diego.
It is the Bancroft House in Spring Valley.
I posted the topic under the locations section of the
website.
Honest, no Phoeing.
It has an interesting history and it is right in your own backyard.
If going to Old Town has you irritated due to the droves of people there
This might be a good place to try out your equipment.
