You might be too young to remember this, Brian (people begin with that when they're dead envious of your youth), but back in 1980, when the Reagans came to power at the height of the nuclear arms race, there was serious talk about President Reagan being The Beast who would bring Armeggedon.  The evidence was that the letters of his name, Ronald Wilson Reagan, each counted out to six (i.e., 666), and that he and Nancy bought property whose address was 666 but changed it because of accusations that he was the Anti-Christ.  It sounds a bit ridiculous in retrospect, but I guess that's the point.  These fears of the Anti-Christ that mean so much to us now become hearty guffaws once the fear has passed. (We almost all laugh after a good fright that amounts to nothing).

I think these so called predictions of Revelations are as compelling as the interpretation of Nostrodamus's quatrain about Mabu being Osa[MA+BU]sh.  Ultimately, they're intended spiritually to put us on a permanent Orange Alert; if good sense cannot inspire us to obey the Golden Rule, then fear should keep us on our toes.

Hey . . . isn't 06-06-06 the California Primary Election Day?  Now, that has the potential for real malevolence.  :o

This latest is just a simple screen capture from a German toy site, but I couldn't resist.  However, the one of the bunny and the skull should be familiar to you:  the Knights of Ni lost their lives to that little critter!  8)

Yes, there was local significance regarding this date for San Diegans... 06/06/06 was the official release date for Stone Brewing Company's 2006 Vertical Epic Ale, which was very tasty! Can't wait for the 07/07/07 release! Uurrrrp!? ?;D

The problem with predictions based on numerology and dates is that the calendars used over the ages are not synchronous, and even the one we use today to mark the Common Era has undergone fudging and arbitrary additions.  Evil dates also meant very little to civilization before our global obsession with the clock and the calendar; agrarian societies noticed the phases of the moon and the season for the crops or the hunt, not individual dates.  So, honestly, I think the Date of the Beast is as much utter nonsense as Y2K.

If we're talking about the number "6" having some inherent power to invoke evil, then we're already in deep:  if a base 10 number puts us in trouble, than everything from shoe sizes to tax forms will bring the end of the world.
