Ok, here?s a topic I hope you all find as fascinating as I do.
I remember an episode of the Twilight Zone where a woman receives a series of disturbing phone calls. She later discovered they were from her husband who had passed away.
There are reports of people who have made telephone calls and talked to people that they later found out were dead. There are also reports of people who have received telephone calls from people they knew to be dead. I am not aware of any absolutely credible cases, but such stories persist. These calls usually have several things in common:
1. They occurred on emotionally significant days, such as anniversaries, birthdays or holidays.
2. They are usually brief.
3. They usually have a purpose, such as to say good-bye.
There are several explanations for such conversations with the dead. The most obvious ones that come to mind are:
1. They are a hoax.
2. The person receiving the call was dreaming, hallucinating, or under the influence.
3. They are really a form of EVP.
Has anyone had a personal experience with such phenomena?

I have heard about it and read about it. I have also talked to people who say this has happened to them. i get calls all the time from different numbers and there will be noone there then it hangs up. It's only a few seconds or so. But with in the next hour I'll get a call from some bussiness. I think they are just trying to make sure your home.
There are also people out there who call, only to use your number to make a connecting call. Until I hear a call from beyond, I'll chalk it up to the tele-marketers.

Before Karl did the interviews, I did. I remember asking our clients that same question. In big bear I do recall Michelle telling me she did get strange calls in the night. She would pick up and no one would be there. Just static.
I had been getting calls like that - middle of the night, nothing but static on the other end. I had the phone company put a trace on them. It turned out some telemarketing companies have automated computers that call and for some reason this one was calling at the wrong hours and w/ no recording. After the company was informed, the weird, night-time static filled calls stopped.
Bummer. I was hoping both you and Ellie were going to tell me that the phone lines were knocked down in the cemetery... ;D
That make sense jen being that the husband was a buisness owner.

Why would paranormal specialists bother to participate in anything having to do with the Amityville horror case, something that was officially laid to rest years ago as an elaborate hoax? I can think of only one reason: hoax is as hoax does. <insert eyerolls here>

"Rational"? Right about now, it's that kid on the phone calling everyone "Stupid-Face" that sounds the most rational. ("I hate you. You got ugly long hair, and you uglier than this house, you Stupid-Face!") Frankly, my one concern was that the kid was repeating insults lodged against her (or him) by a parent. That would bother me and make me want to kick some mom or dad's ass.
Those calls were kinda random and weird. Don't think it had anything to do with standing in front of a non-haunted house, though.
I don't know if you would put this in the same category. But, I had two instances where friends called me out of the blue to just talk right before they died.
The first was my friend's son. He didn't call me very often. But, he stayed on the phone with me for quite awhile just bsing. His mom and her family and me and my family were supposed to camp out at the Barona Pow Wow that weekend. This was a yearly tradition for us. It was unusual for him to call me when we were all supposed to get together. The next day an airliner crashed in his neighborhood killing many people including him and his wife. I was creeped out because his call was out of the ordinary.
The second was a young family friend, he was my nephew's friend. Same thing, he called me out of the blue from Texas and we talked for quite awhile. He also called my brother. He was killed two days later in a car accident (no seat belt). He's buried at Ft. Rosecrans. Whenever I go there to visit my Dad's grave, I seek his out. I usually end up chewing him out because he wasn't wearing his seat belt. He had so much to look forward to. He was getting promoted to Sgt. in the Army and found love.
I have always felt these two young men from somewhere in the depths of their souls somehow knew they were leaving this life and were saying good bye.
That's as close as I want to come to speaking to the dead. Especially before they die.
Wow! That is an amazing experience. I'm am sure your friendship meant a lot to them.

I agree. If I had the same experience as you I would be a nervous wreck the next time I got a call from someone close to me who usually doesn't call. Who knows why these things happen, but the only word that comes to mind is "tragic."

I've thought about someone else calling me. I would gently emplore them to be careful and cautious. Of course, I wouldn't tell them why. I wouldn't want to freak them out.
I absolutely think something was telling them to say their good byes. I still think about these two young men. I miss them.
