Title: 2010 Total Lunar Eclipse
Post by: PPI Brian on December 13, 2010, 05:22:46 PM
The last lunar eclipse of 2010 is especially well placed for observers throughout North America. The eclipse occurs at the Moon's descending node in eastern Taurus, four days before perigee. During a total lunar eclipse, the Moon's disk can take on a dramatically colorful appearance from bright orange to blood red to dark brown and (rarely) very dark gray.

This is the first total Lunar Eclipse visible in North America in nearly three years. Partial eclipse begins about 9:32 pm and totality begins at 10:40 pm. Let's hope for clear skies!  ;D

So it looks like we are poop outta luck for seeing the eclipse!  lol  That's okay with me, though.  According to Debra, the one in 1836 caused bad things to happen.  Debra!!!  Give us some history to make us feel less bummed that we're missing it!!!   lol

It was 1378 (excuse my dyslexia!). According to astrology lore, it was a trigger for the Vatican split with 2 opposing popes, one Italian, one French. The schism lasted 40 years.

lmao!   :D   YOUR dyslexia????  lol   I got 3 out of 4 numbers correct and all in the wrong place.  lol   Thanks, Debra   :)  By the way....what ended the split?  Solar Eclipse of 1418 maybe?  Okay, just kidding.  I wonder what the turmoil track record for lunar eclipses really is.

I'm so bummed that this beautiful and amazing thing was happening up in the heavens and we couldn't see it due to what has become Nigara Falls over the last four days.  :'(

Hey, my friend Ryan is awesome for taking them.  But so happy to share them with you all.  Has it even stopped raining once today?  I don't think so.   :o

Nope.  Not once.  My poor little outdoor Christmas decor and lights.  They've been underwater for days now.   :(

Yikes, and there's still more to arrive overnight:

I like it for about the first two or three days.  We are on day 8 and now my mother's office in her house is flooded because her pool overflowed.  I'm worried about my living room because the water has been known to seep into the foundation and then into the house just with the sprinklers manfunctioning.  Crossing my fingers that all will be okay.

Our home is flooded. The whole north end of our building. We have only been home 1 week from the last mess. I am not a happy camper.

Criminy, Debra!  I'm so sorry!  That sucks!  Are you and Larry safe?  Do you need anything?

Those pictures are fantastic, Gary.  In what dry location does your friend live?

We are in the midst of damage assessment, waiting for the plumbers, etc... to arrive. I did have the foresight to purchase 40 sandbags last year, but some of this flooding has not happened before.
Thanks for the offers. I will keep you posted.

Given my current karma with water, I will NOT be going on a cruise, ever.

I'm with you girl:  No cruises for me....EVER.  But mine is for a different reason.  Just plain old phobia of ships and the ocean.

I'm so very sorry that you are having to deal with yet another water related issue.  I know you are frustrated and so tired of dealing with this.  Just hang in there and lean on those who care about you and Larry.  *points to all of us*   ;D

If I can do anything for you, please let me know, Deb.

Finally, the clogged drains outside the building have been "snaked" out. The walls are a little wet, and there is one place where water has gotten under the floorboards. Since the leak is near the fireplace, we've been burning logs since 2:30 to dry the home out. Hopefully, it will be over soon.

I am so over all this.  :)
