AWWW thanks , Brian!
I love hummingbirds!
:)
Oh wow! That is so awesome!
Hummingbirds have a very special place in our hearts. My family, I'm speaking of. After our dear family friend, Zoya Fateri died, Taylor and I were sitting in her room, talking and looking out the window. She asked me if Zoya would ever come back and visit her. If not in her human body then as something else. A butterfly or bird, perhaps. I told her that I thought that was definitely possible. Just then, this little hummingbird appeared right outside her window. It landed on a branch and just was looking in at us. It didn't seem afraid at all. It zoomed off then came back, landed on the same branch and just looked at us. Then it began a series of fancy flight maneuvers. Almost as if it was showing us what it could do. Taylor and I just looked at each other and smiled. Taylor named the hummingbird, "Queenie". That hummingbird came back every single day for about a year. There was a break of about a month or so, then it came back again and continues to. I'm sure that it's another hummingbird, but Tay still thinks it's her beloved Queenie (aka: Zoya).
We need a hummingbird icon. Don't you agree?
I love hummingbirds too. I have two feeders hanging by our kitchen window, and have to fill them every day. In the summer, they have to be filled twice a day. Here's a short video I shot on my back porch last year:

(note: this was a quiet day for the hummers. I have counted 20 individual birds feeding on a good day. :) )
Brian,
you can have any my h-bird facebook photos, if they can be made into icons.
Hi Debra,
Thank you. ;D I too have been taking pictures of hummingbirds, but mine haven't turned out as well as yours. :)
Well, I can't seem to get them to sit still for even a second!
:)

They've adopted me!
They are around me when I'm outside. They've scared off strangers more than once... It's amazing.... they are very territorial about my doorstep and patio. Also, I've rescued 4-5 from certain death, so maybe they are used to me. (There are 2 photos on my facebook photos section of them in my hands.)
I stand on the patio and wait for them to come by. I've put a feeder near the end of the building.
Then I just snap the photos as fast possible. There is usually only 1 good photo for every 12 I take. Sometimes they are in front of my face, hovering, eye to eye.
That's way too cute! They're amazing animals. This last HD series on Discovery called Life, had some beautiful footage of hummingbirds in flight, and in slo-mo too!
I honestly think that they are miniature angels. 0:<

A beautiful, poetic way of thinking.
In Sufism, birds = angels.

Hummingbirds are little miracles, which is one thing I truly miss about living in downtown El Cajon. We're not allowed to put feeders outside our windows, either--bummer. :-[
Last evening at dusk, the 2nd hummingbird egg hatched.
Egg hatching is hard work!

LOL! El Cajon is one mean place!
Nah, it's actually one of the policies of our townhouse complex, not an El Cajon ordinance or anything. Sorry. I should have clarified that. Also, I haven't seen a single hummingbird since I moved here. I used to see them all the time at my place in Hillcrest. That saddens me.

The reason you haven't seen them is because they are hanging out at hummingbird bars where they ARE wanted. They go where the beverages are sweet and the livin' is easy. ;)
