This one had me in stitches. You know how robot dancers move across the stage from side to side while continuing to face the audience? Check out the foot movement of this "apparition" on the right side of the frame, before it moves behind the central bush. Also, the "set-up shot" with Alice the Moon Goon taking center stage makes me feel the scene had some very controlled blocking arranged ahead of time.
I really couldn't see much in this shot. Where is this so called ghost coming from?
Watch it a few more times, Brian. It's pretty funny. The apparition seems to locomote from the shadow on the right, promenade from right to left behind the bush, then turn back into the shadows.
The more I study this one, the more I think we're looking at a model train landscape (in miniature), and that our ghost--looking vaguely like Lurch in a Vivian Westwood basque--is on a pulley of some sort, like the allegorical statuary that come out of the clock tower in little old Bavarian town squares: a lord and a peasant chased by the Grim Reaper or some such pap. To begin with, trees don't grow like this; the bases seem fake and glued to material. Secondly, I swear that's a model train track, not a foot path, that perfectly circumscribes the foreground. Thirdly, the apparition comes out from the right on a big wheel, or a roller skate, or a Thigh Master, or some contraption. And, finally, what are the chances that a ghost would offer perfect blocking so that our lad with a camera could capture it dead center (no pun intended) in his shot? I'll tell what they are: nil. This was staged by Tim Burton's flunky.
Yeah, I like the "train model" theory. Now the landscape looks fake to me when I view it.
